“Halal” is an Arabic word that translates to “lawful or permissible.” In the supplement industry, the term is used to refer to the products and facilities that have been reviewed, audited, and deemed compliant according to the laws and tenets of the Islamic faith. 

Most supplements on the market today usually contain gelatin. In addition, fat-soluble vitamins, such as Vitamins A, D, E, and K can come from non-halal sources. 

Gelatin is typically used in supplements as a softening agent. Most companies use gelatin that is derived from haram (non-permissible) sources such the bones or fat of pigs or other animals not slaughtered according to Islamic guidelines. This is because it is the most common and inexpensive source. As Islamic dietary laws forbid this, it is therefore haram. However, VitaVive Nutritions uses gelatin from halal sources only. All of our products are halal certified and have proper documentation. Absolutely NO HARAM ingredients are used in any VitaVive products. 

Kosher vitamin supplements are produced according to Jewish dietary laws. This does not necessarily mean that they are halal. For example, some kosher-certifying organizations believe that gelatin extracted from pigs and some alcohols are kosher. All VitaVive products are certified halal by the Halal Monitoring Service (HMS) and contain no ingredients forbidden by Islamic law. 

Vitamins and minerals are necessary for our overall well-being. Our bodies need a certain amount of essential nutrients to function at an optimal level. Ideally, we would get these through the food we eat. Unfortunately, many of us are not eating in a way that provides the proper amount of nutrients daily. That said, we should not dismiss healthy eating habits! Your main focus should be to derive the most vitamins and minerals from food. Supplements are used to provide additional nutrients; they are meant to enhance our diets and support our health. They can help meet our daily recommendations or provide a more concentrated amount of nutrients than you would be able to get through food alone.
